Tantra Meditation: The Path to Self-Realization

Tantra, in essence, signifies expanding beyond limitations. Its ideology recognizes that all the powers, or shaktis, in the universe are encountered in the individual: Tatha brahmande, yatha pindande (“As in the macrocosm, so in the microcosm”). In Tantra, the ultimate yantra is the body, and our self-realization potential (kundalini shakti, the vast powers dormant within us) is awakened through the use of asana, pranayama, bandhas, mudras, and mantra.

Tantric meditation is the quickest and most effective way to "pierce the veil" that obscures our awareness of limitless potential. It uses multiple tools and techniques to help us awaken our kundalini shakti and achieve self-realization.

The Basics of Tantra Meditation at MassageSutra

The Tantric path recognizes that the universe is alive and conscious, and that we are all part of this divine consciousness. It acknowledges that the body is a microcosm of the universe and that every part of the body is interconnected. This interconnectedness is symbolized by the chakras, which are the seven energy centers in the body.

Tantra sees the body as a tool for spiritual growth, and it uses various practices to awaken the kundalini shakti and activate the chakras. These practices include Tantra Massage, asana, pranayama, bandhas, mudras, and mantra.

Tantra Massage

Tantra massage can be used as a powerful tool in Tantra Meditation to connect with the divine through the body. By focusing on the energy centers of the body, or chakras, Tantra massage can help to awaken the Kundalini energy and promote a state of relaxation and spiritual connection. Tantra massage can also help to release physical and emotional blockages, allowing for a deeper connection with the divine. Tantra massage typically involves full-body massage, with an emphasis on the genitals and erogenous zones. So, Tantra massage is a practice that uses the body as a tool for meditation and spiritual connection.

Asana

Asana is the physical practice of yoga. It involves holding postures to improve flexibility, strength, and balance. In Tantra Meditation, asana is used to stabilize the pelvic floor, strengthen the sacrum, and increase flexibility and stability in the spinal column. These benefits help to prepare the body for the awakening of the kundalini shakti.

Pranayama

Pranayama is the practice of controlling the breath. It is used in Tantra Meditation to energize the solar plexus, access the heart center, and enter the eyebrow center, or third eye, to replenish the brain and nervous system. The increased oxygenation of the body also helps to prepare the body for the awakening of the kundalini shakti.

Bandhas

Bandhas are muscular locks that are used to control the flow of prana in the body. There are three main bandhas: Mula Bandha, Uddiyana Bandha, and Jalandhara Bandha. In Tantra Meditation, bandhas are used to awaken the kundalini shakti and move it through the chakras.

Mudras

Mudras are hand gestures that are used to manipulate the flow of prana in the body. They are used in Tantra to activate the chakras and awaken the kundalini shakti. Some of the most common mudras used in Tantric meditation are the Gyan Mudra, Chin Mudra, and Yoni Mudra.

Mantra

Mantra is the repetition of a sacred word or phrase. It is used in Tantra to focus the mind and awaken the kundalini shakti. Some of the most common mantras used in Tantric meditation are the Om Mantra & So Hum Mantra.

Samyama

Samyama is the practice of concentration, meditation, and union/merging with the Infinite. In Tantra, samyama is used to bring the practitioner into a state of heightened awareness and to help them connect with the divine consciousness.
